Welgegund is humbled to announce that it’s red blend wine Providence has won a Silver Award in the 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards in the UK – with the wine being confirmed as “a very accomplished wine, with impressive complexity”. To achieve this award the Welgegund Providence had to earn a tasting score of 90-94 out of 100!
The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) were launched in 2004 in the UK.The number of entries has subsequently grown to an astounding 17 200 individual wines in 2017. The tasting panel this year consisted of 219 expert judges that included no less than 65 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers.
The 2017 tastings took place in April, in London and the wines were tasted in a number of categories, reflecting different styles and regions, and wereall blind tasted.
Only 4800 bottles of the Welgegund Providence 2015 were produced.
This award is wonderful recognition of the efforts of the Welgegund team, and the incredible terroir of our beautiful farm in Wellington, which combine to produce world class wines reflecting the deep heritage of Cape wine making that has been so globally envied of this region for centuries.
