Olive trees are among the oldest known cultivated trees in the world and were grown by man before written language was invented. The olive branch is widely regarded as a symbol of peace and abundance and olive oil, pressed from the fruit of these trees, was considered a sacred oil in antiquity and a symbol of wealth.
At Welgegund, our olive oil is made only from fruit grown on our historic farm in Wellington. The hot, dry summers and mild wet winters are ideal conditions for growing olive trees. Combined with our well-drained and aerated, decomposed granite soil, our thriving olive trees produce wonderful fruit that yields our fresh and lively golden olive oil.
